Regardless of your view on Trump, this is good to read. Last week I was discussing the talent shortage in tech with a couple of clients and we concluded that a lot of this does stem from the education system - it moves way too slow in comparison to how quickly Silicon Valley innovates... The likes of Coursera and Udacity are bridging this gap at the senior level but without doubt K-12 and college education is where the investment needs to be made. It will be great to see this in action over the next couple of years.
According to the memo, Trump is directing the Department of Education to explore ways to increase or add focus on CS in K-12 schools, take into account gender and racial diversity and produce an annual report highlighting the department’s effectiveness in these efforts.
